Minatoya
A dignified inn well-loved by cultural figures
Cultural figures such as Taro Okamoto and Rokusuke Ei were quite fond of this dignified inn that is steeped in history from the time when hatago (a ryokan or inn) flourished in post town Shimosuwa. An outdoor bath is available in the middle of the garden, and the waters here are sourced directly from Wata no Yu, a hot spring with a thousand-year history. It was even introduced as the “most Japanese bath” in ‘TIME’ magazine.
Unique dishes like horse meat, wakasagi (smelt from Lake Suwa), and more can also be enjoyed here.
